Two New Weather Stations Along Conesus Lake.

Two weather stations are planned for Conesus Lake, one for each end. The new weather stations will report a variety of measurements including:

  • Wind speed and direction
  • Air temperature
  • Relative humidity
  • Sunlight levels using a couple of different methods
  • Air pressure
  • Rainfall

All data from these stations will be available online to anyone interested.  In addition, these stations will provide local weather data to the NEWA (Network for Environment and Weather Applications) System hosted by Cornell University.  The NEWA system began in 1995 and now has in excess 300 stations sending in data to drive over 30 models that use the weather data to help mitigate the effects of various pests and predict crop production.

It is hoped that these weather stations will enhance our ability to predict Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) by providing more complete weather information.
